Injured on a bicycle? We can help
Riding a bike is a fantastic way to commute and get exercise. Unfortunately, it also leaves you vulnerable when sharing the road with drivers. Unlike a motor vehicle, your only protection is your helmet and your reaction time. Thus, your injuries are potentially much, much more severe.
Rules of the road and legal ambiguities
Oregon is definitely a bike-friendly state but that doesn’t necessarily translate to sensible law. Accidents involving bicyclists pose legal issues that can be confusing. For instance, you as a bicyclist, have the right of way in a crosswalk, like a pedestrian, but only if you’re traveling no faster than “walking speed”. Insurance companies have used this bicycle crosswalk law to fight claims against their drivers.
Not taken seriously
In addition to the legal ambiguity, some drivers don’t take accidents with bicycles as seriously as those with other cars. The same rules apply to bike accidents as they do car accidents. If a driver has hit you and fails to stop and respond they are committing felony hit-and-run.
